[NOBUGS] Proposal for a Satellite Meeting on Scientific Data Compression Re: NOBUGS 2026 - Additional information and first call for satellite meetings

Dear Steffen and  NoBUGS 2026 Organizing Committee,




      I am Yu Hu from Institute of High Energy Physics, CAS, and the group leader of HEPS data processing software framework.  

      I would like to propose a satellite meeting on scientific data compression. As beamlines and detectors continue to improve, the amount of data we produce is growing very quickly, and many facilities are now facing increasing pressure on data storage, transfer, and processing. Data compression has become a practical and important topic for many users and developers.

      This satellite meeting would offer a chance for the scientific community to exchange ideas on current compression methods, discuss practical needs and strategies, and explore possible future directions. I expect around 30 participants, and I would prefer a half-day slot.

      Please let me know if any additional information is needed.

As initial information, if possible, please provide the topic of the meeting, a rough estmate on the number of participants you expect, and whether you prefer a full-day or a half-day meeting slot.
